A Birthday Fantasy By Joni Latham Your birthday began three days before the actual day. Everyone has visited and brought your presents during those three days, leaving you alone on your actual birthday, thinking that you might have plans. Plans? What plans? You have no boyfriend. The only man you are interested, is....Well, you know. You sit by yourself at the kitchen table, staring at the birthday cake with the forest fire worth of candles sitting on top. The cake arrived earlier by messenger at your door with no card, and the delivery person had no information on its sender what-so-ever. So, you sit here, staring at it and deciding whether or not you want to start a forest fire and have Smokey The Bear pay you a visit. You decide to leave the candles as is since there is no one to watch you blow them out anyway. You sigh and lean back in the chair, thinking that another year has passed and you still have not met that elusive man who has slowly moved through your dreams over the past two years. You close your eyes and start to picture in your mind what he would do if he were there to help you celebrate your birthday. Wonderful pictures flood your mind as you become totally lost in them. So lost in fact, that you don't notice a presence enter the room or the candles on the cake ignite, one by one. You freeze as you feel lips against your ear and a sultry voice whisper. "Make a wish, Mon Cherie." Your eyes remain closed, afraid that if you open them, he will disappear. "My wish has already come true. I would recognize your voice, your touch anywhere." "You still need to extinguish the candles," he says. "We would not wish for the house to burn while I give you the rest of your present which may take the rest of the night." Your eyes snap open, and you quickly blow out the candles as you feel his arms wrap around you. "That is better," he says, picking you up and carrying you into your bedroom where you see the faint hint of more candle light.
