Nunkies, The Historian: Part Two. by Cousin Senara You're a junior in college and gearing to write and research your thesis. You just got the horrendous news from your department advisor that the professor you wanted to advise your thesis on the origins of the cold war (which you have affectionally nicknamed "three cranky guys and the policy they made") has decided to take a sabbatical. "No, he will not, I repeat NOT, be available to be a thesis advisor." The words of rejection repeat themselves in your head. You and your friends decide that the replacement advisor the department is going to hire is a poor substitute for the ever popular professor who had really neat stories to tell about poker games he played with Churchill. But you really want to forge ahead with your topic, so you schedule a meeting with Professor Cross. Strangely enough, the only appointments are at night. You knock on the door to his office when you arrive for your appointment. "Come in," the low voice that sounds familiar bids you welcome. You grab the seat across from the professor's desk and start digging in your bookbag for your proposed outline. Finally locating that misbehaving folder, you place the two-pager on his desk and get a look at the visiting advisor. It's NUNKIES! Thankfully, he doesn't notice that your jaw and the floor are having a meaningful conversation. He's too busy reading your outline. His eyes, oh so blue, fix you with a hard stare. "And how do you propose to fund this research, or get your hands on it?" he askes. A quick prayer to whomever is listening that your voice doesn't shake later, you answer that you had already applied for funding, but hadn't been approved. He suggests a few foundations, most notably the de Brabant Foundation, and also hints for you to use his name when writing your request. Of course you rise from your chair to look over his shoulder as he is pulling those foundation brochures. Quick as a wink, he pulls you into his lap and whispers, "And about that primary research...." **************************************************************************** *sigh* too bad I didn't watch FK when I was in college.... it would have definitely helped with the thesis blues.... good night everyone! have fun! valerie vgilson@tiac.net/ IRC nick: Senara Cousin, Dark Knightie, Die Hard, NA "They told me to forget and that's all I remember."
