A COMMODIOUS EXCHANGE
(Adderly) One of the primary functions of an intelligence agency is to provide funding and cover for agents in the field on a consistent basis. When ISI runs into a busy season, the oddest jobs tend to fall into a capable hand at Miscellaneous Affairs.
SHADOWS OF THE PAST
(Dark Shadows; Murder, She Wrote) Writing a Gothic mystery novel should be easy with the proper atmosphere, although Jessica Fletcher finds that the combination of a murder and disappearance in Collinsport, Maine might be a bit too stimulating.

All artwork, including the beautiful color cover, is by Ann Larimer.
Field Operations Manual and Orientation Packet
Ever wonder where all the background about Fire Zone, Karenina Bosov, and a lot of other original things in the Karenina Continuity Chronicles came from? When KCC first seemed like a going concern, my brother and I literally created Fire Zone, with blueprints, official documents, personnel files . . . the works. Now we'd like to share these classified files with you, our readers.
So, for the first and only time, we present the Fire Zone Field Operations Manual.
Read the dossiers on the staff of Fire Zone (military and civilian), including how and why they were chosen for their positions. Discover how Alex Collins' dream of a paranormal investigations center came into being . . . and the compromises he had to make to bring it to reality. Find out why Colonel Blaine has such a fear of the paranormal and what his ultimate plans for the Fire Zone may mean to all the `unusual' individuals investigated.
We've put in everything we had and then some, including the actual blue prints (ever wonder who does the laundry and where?), Fire Zone investigation procedures (what happens when a call comes in?), how the Nexus computer works and the systems it can access (you'd be surprised), and a summary of story titles and synopses . . . as well as a rundown of Fire Zone's continuing nemesis, Ridgeway Industries (the biggest baddest big business conglomerate you've ever seen!). Not to mention dossiers on Karenina Bosov and Matthew Gunther, a list of the series' chronology/geography, map of Karenina's travels, detailed discussion of what the vampires in KCC can and cannot do, and the often requested annotated listing of series, so that you know in which story your favorite series appeared.
And since this is all pretty prosaic and meant primarily for hard-core fans of KCC (and potential contributors to the Apocrypha issue), we've created a special `happy meal' edition in which you'll receive a Fire Zone security access badge, magnet, set of trading cards, and a really keen envelope with a pocket to keep your goodies in . . . along with the Field Operations Manual (out of a limited edition of 50, there are three left).
Needless to say, all of the excellent artwork is by Ann Larimer, and the non-fiction and fiction are by either Susan or Shawn Garrett.
The Apocrypha Issue
The Karenina Continuity Chronicles finishes with Issue #5 and the story's over, right?
Wrong. What about the stories that were never told? What about events that may have happened differently? What about people that Karenina or Fire Zone never ran into . . . or did they?
The Apocrypha Issue gives you the chance to write for KCC. Have you wanted to write a story about your favorite characters or series? Is there something, in your opinion, we didn't handle right or didn't handle at all? This is the chance to give the world your version of previously recorded events . . . or a completely original story, poem, or artwork.
We do have a few rules about submissions, namely:
KCC was envisioned as a chance to let me do some experimentation with story forms and subjects . . . why not take advantage of the opportunity? Tired of the same old fanzine stories?
Try something new! This zine will give me a chance to do one, final issue and answer at least one very pressing question of my own--what happened when Karenina ran into MacGyver? For yourself, the sky's the limit; you can use anything from Alien Nation, Hardcastle & McCormick, War of the Worlds, Quantum Leap, The Twilight Zone . . . anything your little televisionistic heart yearns to see in print. We've already received a story from Laura Michaels entitled "More Consequences," which clarifies the ending to "Lies and Consequences" (Issue 2: Dance Into the Fyre), and a Phoenix poem.
Do you need information about Karenina or Fire Zone? Feel free to ask or check out the Fire Zone Field Operations Manual. I'll answer as best I can, and if I don't know, it's up to you to fill in the gaps.
