Chivalrous
by Cousin Shelley

A knight in shining armor, proud
on his impeccable steed? No, you'd
have thundered by, sinewy horse
snorting clouds, only dust
in your wake, a sharp flash
disappearing in the distance.
But you came bathed in pagan
blood, your sword broken
from beating a stone
dragon, limping, bleeding from
every chink, your rusted belly full
of the white horse that had
to be put down. Beautiful.

That's just how I wanted you.
