I Feel Lucky
by Kelly Green
This was originally written to wish happy birthday to
Marcia and IlCzJules on the UF loop.
My thanks go to Julia Kocich, Heather Poinsett,
Cousin Sarah, and Leslie Grant Smith for their
encouragement, and to Lisa Prince for deeming
it suitably unsuitable.
With apologies to Mary-Chapin Carpenter.

I FEEL LUCKY
Well, I woke up this morning in my elegant bed
With a devious distraction that would mess with Nick's head.
Let my fingers do the walking twice, then I hung up the phone
No, the good Detective Schanke would not end up alone
Nick's nightly dose of destiny's on his answering machine.
Told him souvlaki's an acquired taste,
If you know what I mean.
I feel lucky, I feel lucky
No whining child of mine is going to
stand in my way -
Mmmm - I feel lucky today.
Well, I strolled down to the Raven after stopping off at CERK
Popped in a pre-recorded tape containing my best work.
I bought Janette's best vintage, and I waited in the dark
Until I saw Detective Schanke looking happy as a lark.
Well, I kissed him hard and smiled when the man began to moan
Then I heard a voice behind me say "Don, you'd better get back home."
But I feel lucky, I feel lucky, yeah.
No idiot morality
would stop me anyway
Mmmm - I feel lucky today.
Well, a quarter past eleven we're all sitting at the bar
Discussing a baptismal in the back of Nick's car.
Don Schanke's in the corner trying to catch my eye
Nick Knight is right beside me with his hand upon my thigh
The moral of the story is simple but it's true:
Why play with one when two's more fun and takes away the blues.
I feel lucky, I feel lucky, yeah
Hey Don, hey Nick, boys,
You don't have to fight.
Hot dog, I feel lucky tonight.
I feel lucky, I feel lucky
Think I'll flip a coin
I'm a winner either way,
Mmmm - I feel lucky today.
