WHY?
  from Nick to Lacroix
by Sue Whitehorn

Why does it always hurt, Father?
Why must we always fight?
Why do we always throw dirt, Father?
Why do we each think we are right?

Why must one of us be superior, Father?
Why must one of us be the master?
Why must one of us be inferior, Father?
Why must our relationship always cause disaster?

Why can't we learn to care, Father?
Why can't we both be free?
Why can't we learn to share, Father?
Why can't you see my plea?

I'm tired of fighting, Father,
I want to be at peace.
And so to you I'm writing,
For our war, at last, to cease.

I love you so, my Father,
And I want no more, the pain.
This I want you to know, my Father,
That your love is my real true gain.

So, can we begin anew, Father?
And try to understand,
The meaning of the word TWO, Father?
If so, please take my hand.

And we will travel as one, Father,
Down a road of peace at last.
And I will be your son, Father
With our war now in the past.

With my love,
 Your son, Nicholas
